In the 1970’s, Researchers in Denmark found that the Inuit people in Greenland, showed a much lower rate of cardiovascular problems than the people of Denmark. Later, the answers were found that even though the Intuit people had a high consumption of fats, they were actually fats from fish, Seals, Whales and other sea foods, in fact they were Omega 3 fatty acids.

After that discovery, many studies were set up all over the world and they have shown that the original research was correct, in that Omega 3 fatty acids did help to prevent Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes, together with the fact that they did help tremendously in improving overall health.

People who has lots of health problems has low intake of fatty acids. If the fatty acid is lower, it will cause disease. Fatty acids help to develop human brain, increase intelligence and enhance memory.

Omega 3 is polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). It is called omega 3 because it is at the 3rd position of carbon first double bond at the methyl end. Omega 3 includes DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).

Omega 3 is derived from two natural sources. DHA and EPA came from the oil of fatty fish like salmon, sardines, mackerel, tuna and anchovies. This kind of fish eats algae and plankton that is rich with these acids.

Another Omega 3 fatty acids source is plant source. ALA is derived from green leafy vegetables, vegetable oils (canola, flaxseed, corn oil and soybean), soy and tofu, and nuts (walnuts and almonds).

Let’s go deeper the omega 3 fatty acid definition. The fatty acids of omega 3 are called essential fatty acids (EFAs). They are called essential because they are important to our body. Imbalance EFAs cause diseases and unhealthy body.

DHA and EPA are more required that ALA. ALA is usually converted when taken in our body. The two powerful fatty acids (DHA and EPA) are proven more effective. When it comes to anti inflammation, DHA and EPA are more recommended because they are more effective than ALA.
